Established in 1970, and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) is a pan-African, non-governmental and non-profit Centre of Excellence of research, development and capacity building in insect science and its application. The centre works on a 4-H (Health) paradigm, including plant, animal, human and environmental health, with arthropods as the common factor to help alleviate poverty, ensure food and nutritional security and improve the overall health status of peoples of the tropics. The Centre’s vision is to pioneer global science in entomology, to improve the wellbeing and resilience of people and the environment to the challenges of a changing world, through innovative and applied research, alongside deep exploratory study, impact assessment, evaluation and sustainable capacity building.
